Effective Tips to Improve SERP Ranking in 2017

cover

It's a smart thought to Google your page to see the positioning it gets in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) and break down it completely as though you were a potential guest. Everything in the SERP, from your positioning to the little piece of content underneath your connection has an orientation in the natural activity your site gets.

In addition, because of the quick changing nature of SEO, attempting to enhance the perceivability of your page can be very testing, so having the best aura and utilizing some straightforward or obsolete SEO techniques is insufficient.

It is important to go further and utilize the most exceptional instruments and powerful traps to build up a decent initial introduction to exploit and enhance SERP rankings.

On that note, how about we survey first some of most generally utilized on-page procedures which no longer work these days for SEO:

On Page SEO strategies that do NOT work anymore

  •         Keyword rich content and site

There was a time when we would read an article with content filled with variations of keywords (around 5% density) but no more. Actually, the currently recommended keyword density is about 3% (or less), without sacrificing any quality of the content on trying to get more keywords.
Likewise, the former practice of boosting your page’s rank through linking a keyword from one page to another internally,  will now produce a significant drop your SERP ranking.
  •         Short content articles

Formerly,  you could get away with writing short articles (300 words approx.) and still get the best ranks on Google for long periods of time. Today, the best rankings are those which have articles with high quality content of generally more than 2000 words.
  •      Ignoring images optimization

During a long time, ignoring images for your site/content and not using the alt text and image file names did not affect your page rank.
Ignoring images optimization
Nowadays, search engines take this aspect into consideration more than ever, so just it is important to use Alt text diligently. Keywords should be present in at least some of the images in your site.
  •         Randomly internal linking

You should not just build linking pages at will and then create circles by using your site. Yes, internal links are still important for SEO but you need to stop doing it randomly and establish a clear strategy to do it properly.
  •         Including invisible text

This is a black hat technique that consists of adding a keyword list to a page through writing it with the same color of the  background or marking it “invisible” by coding so the reader cannot see the text but the search engine can. The idea was stuffing this hidden text with keyboards. This just doesn’t work anymore because the algorithms detect keyboard stuffing. There are legitimate uses for hidden text though, Alt text on images is an example. It is read by the engine but it’s not shown to the users unless of course the image fails to load or something. Descriptive text about videos  can be hidden as well, to be read only by crawlers who aren’t able to otherwise assess the content of videos. Keywords on those descriptions that fit well in the context of the text surrounding the image or video have positive effects on SERP rankings.
  •         Using doorway pages

These are pages created to rank highly for certain keywords that will show up in search results but when the user clicks on the link he’s redirected somewhere else instead. Their purpose is to funnel traffic. They can also lead users to interstitial sites. Doorway pages don’t work anymore. Google’s algorithm is pretty good at detecting them and when it does it penalizes the doorway and the site that’s been receiving the funneled traffic.
  •         Link wheels

This consists in creating several landing pages with some resemblance and link them together and then to the main site. This practice was effective in early 2013 but not anymore.
  •         Unrelated links

Even recently, including many links to other sites which had little or no relationship with your area of expertise would skyrocket your page SERP rankings.
Now, in order to be positive for SEO links need to come from relevant and related sites.
  •      Spamming

Let me tell you that the days of investing good amounts of money on spam links to gain better rankings are over.
This, of course, includes every kind of spam: from forum profiles to useless blog comments.

Poor guest posting

Yes, as you might have guessed, poor or low-quality posting is not valid anymore.
High-quality posting however,  will always be an excellent strategy to generate referenced traffic and strong links. In other words, try not to post something just for the sake of posting. It’s better to post nothing if it’s not good.

To achieve this, here are some useful SEO tips:

1)   Research and select your keywords

Keyword research is the first step that you need to take to develop your SEO strategy.
Your set of keywords should be relevant to your content. A good way to start choosing is making a list of all relevant keywords.
Research and select your keywords
This list should have between 15 and 20 keywords to begin with. After selecting the most suitable  keywords, narrow it down into 5 or 10 keywords considering  their importance, relevance and trending levels not only for the search engines but also for your potential visitors.
And finally, select only between 3 or 5 keywords from the shortlist and start including them in the content, titles, meta descriptions, headers, and tags.

2)   Evaluate your competitor’s SERP’s

If you think that your page will receive higher ranks using high demand keywords like “iPhone”, then you will be totally smashed by the competition as there are millions of different websites already aiming to that keyword.
The best you can do is trying not to use common keywords. To avoid this, use your keyword planner for researching better keywords that will help your brand to get noticed by the customers.
For example, use more specific keywords like “iPhone 6 s 3d touch” or “iPhone SE Plus” to obtain better results and performance in SERP’s.

3)   Target local businesses

We already know that The Internet is a medium with no geographical constraints, but targeting local businesses is a very good starting point to improve your web pages performance in SERP’s.
Target local businesses
By using a localized SEO, your company will have the chance of getting in contact with local businesses and help your brand to develop its image upon the local online customer.
Also, this localized SEO strategy can be useful in online and offline environments.

A catchy domain name will catch relevant  customers with a high percentage of conversion rates.

A good way to measure this is analyzing how your web visitors/searchers interact with your search engine listings in terms of impressions and click-through rates (CTR)  using Google Webmaster Tools.
This online tool will even give you in high detail really useful information such as how many SERP viewers choose your listing per impression and at what different SERP positions.
Through this useful data you can detect when your first-page listing is suffering from a low rate of CTR, so you can make the necessary adjustments in terms of your content/page title, meta descriptions, tags and, even if necessary, your URL naming conventions.

5)   Gaining some trust and reputation

Getting involved in spamming will have a very negative effect on your brand/company by destroying its reputation and credibility. Moreover, your website will be severely penalized by search engine algorithms.
Thus, try to avoid posting useless and pointless messages on forums or blogs which can be considered as spam. Remember to include content with  quality over quantity, and to use a recognized web hosting.
 Gaining some trust and reputation
Just don’t support any kind of low-quality marketing tricks on your web page.
If you avoid any kind of spam you brand/company will gain some credibility and trust that surely will be reflected in your SERP position.

6)   Use social networks

Nowadays social media represents a very cheap alternative to help your website to get noticed by search engines.
On the different social networks, you can inform, promote and engage directly with your potential customers and add a personal touch to the posted content in real time.
Use social networks
Do not forget to optimize every published content on social platforms for your target keywords, but also try to not exaggerate their use.
While your brand/company is becoming more popular on Social media, then your website ranking on SERP’s  will be improved.

7)   On page Titles

Page titles are relevant components to optimize your site for a better SERP performance. They are also heavily rewarded and noticed by search crawlers when scanning and analyzing the relevance of your site in comparison to the  search query of the user.
 On page Titles
Tips
  • Build titles with a limit of no more than 70 characters,  longer titles will be cut in the SERP’s
  • Use the main keyword once at least, and if possible, at the start of the title
  • Try to use pipe symbols (|) to divide keyword phrases but without overusing them.

8)   Meta descriptions

Similarly to page titles, Meta descriptions (or page descriptions) are also a key element to how your page will appear in the SERP’s and serves as a presentation card for potential users.
Meta descriptions
If your website has a poor Meta description (or none at all), your web page will not have any chance against other pages which receive  better rankings in the SERP’s.
Tips:
  • Include the main keyword at least once, and the most advisable place is in the first half of the Meta description with 2 or 3 keywords in total.
  • In order to not get cut in the SERP, Meta descriptions should be no more than 155 characters.
  • It should be written in a kind tone that lures with a warm welcome visitors to enter to your page.
  • Add a Call-to-action. The Meta description is basically an ad in the SERP’s, so take advantage of them, and write a short call-to-action (CTA) to boost your page’s CTR.

9)   Website  headlines

Your website´s main headline has an important value because will be decisive to influence users to make the decision to choose and click the link to your site from the SERP’s lists.
Therefore, ensure your primary keyword is used too in your headlines and body without overusing them and do not forget to not put headlines which are identical to your page title.

        Tips

  • Include just one main keyword
  • Write it similar to the page’s title but not an exact replica

This aspect is one of the most important elements to receive a good performance in SERP’s.
Any effort on SEO will be completely meaningless if your page is not considered attractive by potential visitors because it doesn’t have valuable and original content based on the user’s search parameters.
Website´s body content
Thus to optimize your website body content, try to be very selective with the use of primary and secondary keyword phrases and use them along the content in such a way that they sound naturally.
Modern search engine algorithms can check and detect if your web page has keywords without any relevance and if the content is poor quality.
Do not forget that quality matters more than quantity, so be cautious and build high-quality content with relevant and necessary keywords.

Tips

  • Use just 1 main keyword and no more than 2 or 3 secondary ones.
  • Divide content´s body using secondary headlines
  • Always write relevant, useful and understandable content to achieve a better integration with your headlines and catch more attention from SERPs
